According to the fire department, it received a request from Konan Kosei Hospital in Konan, Aichi Prefecture, to transfer a patient to another hospital at around 5:20 p.m. on Dec. 16, and three paramedics were dispatched. They picked up the patient and the resident doctor, and transported the former to Aichi Medical University Hospital in the prefectural city of Nagakute. (Mainichi/Shinichiro Kawase) The trainee doctor in her 20s asked the paramedics to drop her off at either Nagoya Station or Fushimi Station, both in the city of Nagoya at around 6:40 p.m. on the way back to Konan Kosei Hospital. Though the ambulance team rejected the request once, the woman asked them again, saying, "How about Fujigaoka Station? I got permission from my boss." The paramedics apparently took her to the station reluctantly as it was only a few hundred meters from the route to the hospital. The resident reportedly told a hospital hearing that she had plans to go for dinner with a friend, and was quoted as saying, "The ambulance team consented willingly." The fire department official said, "We don't envisage dropping off someone en route for private purposes."
