In June, teachers in Nagoya and Yokohama were arrested for allegedly filming students and sharing images in social media group chats. Further incidents of indecent acts and voyeurism by teachers were uncovered across Japan, including Fukuoka Prefecture and the city of Hiroshima, leading to multiple arrests. Taking the matter seriously, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology issued a notice in July to all prefectural and major city boards of education, calling for measures to eradicate sexual violence, including thorough training and regular school inspections. There was no mention of security cameras, and the ministry does not advocate for their use.
