(Mainichi/Shinichiro Kawase) NAGOYA -- People formed a long line for tickets at a small cinema here to see a film based on Tetsuya Yamagami, the suspect in the assassination of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, from the morning of Sept. 27 ahead of its evening screening. The film "Revolution+1" was directed by Masao Adachi. The main character is a man modeled after the suspect Yamagami, who was arrested and sent to prosecutors on suspicion of murdering Abe. The film depicts his background and the process leading up to the assassination of the former prime minister. It hit the screens in around a dozen locations across Japan on Sept 26, the day before Abe's state funeral in Tokyo. The screening at Cinema Skhole in Nagoya's Nakamura Ward was for one day only. Ticket sales began at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 27, but some people had lined up from around 8 a.m. The organizers then made an abrupt change to increase the screening time from the original one to two for that day. Meanwhile, a movie theater in the city of Kagoshima in southwest Japan that was scheduled to show the film on Sept. 29 decided to cancel the screening after receiving calls from protesters. A 38-year-old man from Nagoya's Naka Ward said, "I wanted to learn about the character of the suspect, Yamagami, through the movie. I am glad that the screening was not canceled in Nagoya."
