(Mainichi/Kenichiro Fuji) ANJO, Aichi -- City officials apologized at a press conference here on June 22 after it was found that a Brazilian woman who applied for welfare in this central Japan city last November was turned away on false premises. The now 42-year-old applicant of Japanese descent was given the false explanation that "We can't help you if you're homeless." Furthermore, workers at Anjo City Hall also made discriminatory comments such as, "You'd better go back to your home country." She later began to receive public assistance, but has filed an application for human rights relief with the Aichi Bar Association. At the press conference, Anjo Mayor Motohito Mitsuboshi apologized for the inappropriate responses by officials. The city had previously explained the officials failed to get their intentions across well enough because they spoke through an interpreter. After being presented with audio recordings of the incident from news organizations, the city said they had conducted another internal investigation. According to the city and the woman's legal counsel, two city employees pointed out that rent was overdue at the public housing where the applicant resided. The applicant was blamed, being told, "There's a roof over your head because you're illegally squatting. In that state, can you say you aren't homeless?" The woman's application was then rejected on the grounds that the city cannot provide public assistance for the homeless, and she was told, "It's coming to the point where your permission to stay in Japan will be subject to revocation," and, "In the worst case, you'll be forcibly deported." She is said to have visited the city's office due to financial difficulties as she was raising both a 1-year-old and another child in elementary school. Mayor Mitsuboshi claimed, "The employees had no discriminatory intentions スーパーコピーブランド時計 " but apparently did not confirm this with the employees. He also ruled out punishing the workers. Upon a further inquiry from a reporter, he changed his explanation ブランドコピーN級品  saying, "Judgment will be up to a third-party committee (to be established to verify the facts and prevent a recurrence). What I said before was based on my own feelings." The woman's legal counsel strongly criticized the municipal government, stating ブランドコピー財布  "It is outrageous that city hall, tasked with welfare administration, threw around the word 'deportation' and nonchalantly misrepresented the purpose of the system."
